Class Is In: Concrete Roots
This project seeks to build connections between youth and the larger Hip Hop and Urban Dance community in HRM by providing opportunities to learn, train as instructors and ultimately provide employment to dancers as performers and dance instructors so they can spend more time developing their craft. Bboying is a dance that appeals to wide spectrum of youth regardless of age, race, gender or socioeconomic background. The freestyle nature of the dance allows people to express themselves freely, whether on stage in a performance or at any gathering where a cipher, or dance circle, forms. This project will specifically reach out to new immigrant youth to welcome and build connections through their involvement with the classes and larger dance community.
Breakthrough Dance Society is an organization dedicated to increase the growth of the Hip Hop dance community for the benefit of both Nova Scotian youth and positive Hip Hop culture. It is our goal to develop the Nova Scotian urban dance scene by offering workshops in schools and communities so youths will have an outlet for creative expression, and organize events so they may showcase their talents.
