Vision: to connect young people with the community and local artists establishing lasting connections, through the medium of surfboard building and surf art.
Goal: to provide youth on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia, who have limited access to art and recreation opportunities, with the equipment, skills and community connections they require to maintain long-lasting involvement in art and recreation activities. The project will use art-based opportunities (surfboard building, design and painting) to bring youth, members of the surfing community and local artists and board shapers together. Participants will each create their own surfboard and will collaborate in creating a community surfboard (to later be auctioned at the project's closing beach party). Additionally, a surf mentorship program pairing local "expert" surfers with the project participants will support the development of long-lasting partnerships in board building and surfing development.
