Community Artist: Julie Adamson Miller
Well known around the 4Cs office for both the projects she has developed and lead in the Sheet Harbour area of HRM and as a member of the Community Arts Circle (as well as one of the first participants in the Community Arts Training way back in 2007), Julie Adamson Miller has spent the past five months as the Artist-in-Residence in the Medical Humanities Program, engaging the hearts and minds of Dalhousie University medical students and others in innovative and creative ways.

UPCOMING: Arts Engage Level 1 Training in Community-Based Arts
Facilitated by Tessa Mendel, with Terri Whetstone, this is an experiential training in which participants learn and explore the principles and practices involved in using the creative arts in community. The training will include the design and facilitation of community-based creative art programs, participatory experiences of different art forms (including theatre, dance, music and visual arts), arts-based approaches to personal and social transformation, and using an anti-oppressive framework to work with issues of diversity, inclusivity and identity in different communities. Participants will be introduced to the Creative Arts Learning Cycle (CALC) developed by Tessa Mendel). Basics elements of project coordination, including scheduling, budgeting and public relations will also be covered.
The training takes place over a series of Saturdays in February and March.
Enrolment is limited to 15 and the training will run with a minimum of 8. If the minimum is not reached the training will be postponed and your fee refunded.
Payment of fee ensures your spot in the training - and must be paid before February 7, 2012.

Training Details:
Dates: Saturday February 11, 18, March 3, 24, 31, 2012
Fee: $275.00 in total for all five sessions.
Location: 4Cs Foundation Program Room, Suite 104, Cornwallis Street, Halifax, NS. (Note: This is a ground floor, accessible space.)
Time: Doors will be open at 9:30 a.m. to welcome you and give you time to settle. Training will start each day at 10:00 am sharp. We will end each day by 4:30 pm.
Refreshments: Coffee, tea and water are included in your fee. We strongly suggest you bring a bagged lunch and snacks, as there are some restaurants close by however, we will be keeping lunch to a 45 minute break.

Giant Puppets
Community artist Jacqueline Steudler with co-facilitator Becky Thompson have been coordinating a 4Cs project in their community of Fall River. They are working with children and other community members to create giant puppets for a parade during Fall River Canal Days. You can see the puppets, and join the parade on July 1st at 11 am. There will be a community art photo exhibition as well from 1 to 4 pm at the Snow Community Centre. More information at:: www.fallrivercanaldays.ca
ADVICE EXCHANGE
At the recent Open Street Party celebrating Bike Week in Halifax, The Art Bikers set up an Advice Exchange booth where people were invited to share their thoughts and advice with others. The idea is simple: write down a piece of advice in exchange for receiving a piece of advice. The advice cards were documented by the Team and can be view here: flickr!
4Cs welcomes Rodrigo Hernandez-Gomez
4Cs Foundation warmly welcomes Rodrigo Hernandez-Gomez as the new ART BIKERS Coordinator.
Rodrigo is a professional artist with expertise in public and community art. He is very interested in research oriented educational approaches, cultural theory, and the contemporary discourses on Arts Education. Rodrigo brings fifteen years of transformative community arts experience, as well as project planning, design and coordination skills to the program. He has worked with community participants in the Men's' Centre for Social Re-adaptation in Santa Martha, Acatitla, in Mexico city, with youth at Toronto's Red Door Family Shelter, and with Canadian newcomers in both Toronto and Halifax, as well as in his own practise as an artist.
We are thrilled to have Rodrigo join us to inspire the Art Bikers team and the broader Halifax community this summer.
